This editorial will turn off a lot of our readers. Given the fact they actually want to be centrally located within an echo chamber but it’s about time to face this issue head on. The media loves to wind us up with this issue every chance they get but it doesn’t exactly mean it’s not true. Don’t even point to statistics showing more white people die by police than blacks. When you’re the majority that’s only natural. Let’s take an easy hypothetical, if there were 100 white people in your city and only 10 black people with stats showing 10 white people were killed by police and only 3 black people were killed by police. You’d cry out MORE WHITE PEOPLE ARE KILLED BY POLICE! Yet, if you look at the numbers that’s only 10% of the cities white population killed by police. Whereas three out of ten black people killed in the city results in 30% of the cities black people being killed by police.
This issue is one of those situations where we want to stop being so woke but not completely closed off to the idea of waking up to certain issues within our society. It’ll only help us progress as a society. Don’t ignore the issue(s) just because you toss it off as “race baiting”. There is a real issue when it comes to police and our black population. Don’t give me any of that crap that “they should just comply and that wouldn’t happen” either. Not complying with police shouldn’t result in your death. It should however result in your ass being face planted to the ground and forced into compliance. Not shot or put into choke holds etc. Police have many tools at their disposal and so long as the perpetrator doesn’t have a weapon to threaten the life of the police or the surrounding populace, killing them shouldn’t be an option, at all.
I know many white people will talk down about “black thugs” but really that issue in of itself is not even a race issue. It’s a poverty issue. Of course accountability on the black side needs to play a role as well but it is fundamentally a lot harder for someone in complete poverty to get out. Is it possible? Of course, anything is possible but it’s not a guarantee if you stay dedicated, work hard and work away at life that you’ll even make it out of poverty. Think of it like this: you could be a really great football player, work hard and stay dedicated to your craft and be a real viable option for an NFL draft but never make it. You could train and be a great simulated pilot and worth of being a pilot in our Air Force but never make it. Things need to change in this country when it comes to combating poverty. I’m not exactly sure all of the steps but I do know there needs to be easily accessible job options and opportunities within the poverty population of this country.
Instead of sending countless money overseas we should be targeting our own population. How can we constantly help others and neglect our own? Not just in poverty but even our own damn veterans? It’s sickening. I like that we help so many around the world but there’s plenty of opportunities we could be helping our own as well. The same people that complain about sending our money overseas are the very first to complain when we try to spend the money to help our own. You can’t have it both ways. Look at the student debt relief as just one example. The very same people who complain about sending money towards the Ukraine-Russia war were the very first to be outspoken about cancelling or relieving student debt!
That’s Not Even Mentioning Police Militarization
The militarization of many of our police departments should scare ALL OF US. Not just liberals but conservatives as well. This is one of the stepping stones next to taking away gun rights for a dystopian society. The police have a role in our society and being equivalent to a miniature military is NOT one of them. It’s the sad state of the world we currently all live in though. That’s a topic for another day though…
